Cottage Hunting

Happy New Week Everyone.

Thought I would take you on a little tour of some of the possible new cottages we have looked at.

We are putting our home up tomorrow for sale and as soon as we get it sold we will definitely be making a bid on a new cottage.

The area we are looking to move is an older community and a popular one.
You get very little square footage for a lot of money.  Taxes are pretty high too.  The homes were built anywhere from the early 1920's to 1950's.  A lot of these homes are on big lots so many homeowners are choosing to buy and tear down to build their dream homes.

I want the older character home.  Small square footage is fine for me.  It is just Terry, Cooper and I and we do not need a lot of living space.  I find as I get older I do not need a lot of stuff anymore.  Just want a home that is comfy and cozy.  I do not need rooms in a big house anymore that are not utilized.  That was great when the girls were growing up but now with it just the two of us I am good with smaller well used rooms.

This area is perfect for Terry to be close to the community he is serving and close for me for babysitting the grands.

We have started to look and I thought I would take you along on a few of the possible choices we have looked at so far.  Hoping more cute cottages with character will be popping up soon for us to look at.

So grab a frosty beverage or cup of coffee and here we go.

First house up is the Avery home.  Love the all brick homes.  This one was built in the late 1950's.

It has been staged modern for the first time home buyers.  Great wood floors and love love that huge living room window for lots of natural light.

Very open rooms.

Nice kitchen.  New appliances and white cabinets like I love.

Mud room laundry room off the kitchen.

Very small bedrooms in these old homes.  I can make it work.

Cute paver patio off the back of the house.  I could so some really cute things out here with all my flowers in the summer.

On to Cottage number 2

This is the Craig house.  Needs some TLC but is totally cute and has lots of character.  This one was built in 1926.  The bushes would be pulled to open up the house for better curb appeal.

Beautiful enclosed front porch.  Windows would have to go for new ones.  It has exposed brick walls.  Just so much character.

Built in's and lots of character to this living room.  Love the vintage large square heating vents in each room.  Some crown molding added and the gold fire place enclosure removed this room could be super cute and cozy.

Lovely built in cabinets in the dining room.

Lovely updated kitchen waiting for me to put my touches on it.

Very small bedrooms.  I can make them work.

Bonus!!!! they made a walk in closet in the master bedroom.

Beautiful back yard with lots of charm.  Needs some grass put in.  Cooper and his big paws and all that mud would not be a good combo so grass would be on the list of too do's!

Next cottage to show you with potential

Super cute little ranch.  Would be changing the color of the shutters LOL!!!!

Super sweet family room with that wonderful fireplace.  I would love to have a fireplace in my next cottage.

Good size kitchen for this tiny home.  Just would need some decor touches along with updated appliances and counter tops.

Nice big window in the living room/dining area.

Master Bedroom.  Only two bedrooms in this home.

Sweet backyard.  Hard to tell but lots of pretty landscaping already in this yard.

Big back yard for a tiny 1100 sq. foot home.

Final Cottage to share today.

Cute little bungalow.  This home is super cute with a screened in porch on the front and back of the home.

Loved the screened in porch.

I see lots of primer and good paint to bring these walls back to my signature white!  Love all the arched entries into each room.

Beautiful updated kitchen.  The wood work in this home is gorgeous.

Traditional dining room.  Love the larger base moldings in this home.   I would add more character to the existing crown moldings.

All new and pretty windows and doors.

So that is the tour for today.  These are just a few of my favorites that we went to see.  Just have to wait to get an offer now on our home and then we can seriously begin the process to find our new cottage.

Homes in this area sell very quickly so not sure if any of these will still be available when our sells.  I guess I live with the idea that if it is meant to be it will be there when we are ready to make a final choice.

Hope you had fun coming along on the cottage hunt with me.  Hope to have more homes to show you soon.

Keep good thoughts for us that our place will get a good buyer and sell soon.  I just would love to move on and get settled.  Have a great new week ahead.

Kris

  15. Kind of hard to believe that you're being uprooted again so soon! But I like the homes. I like small and cozy of course. I like the ones with nice back yards, as that is important to me. And the older homes always appeal to me. On the upside, you'll get to redecorate again!

  18. Kris, I loved each of those homes. You have the good eye to look past things that can absolutely be changed. Like the landscape , or wall colors , or appliances. The older I get , the less room I want to clean. LOL. I am praying for you and Terry. I do think that looks like nice neighborhoods. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  32. Dear, dear friend, THIS IS EXCITING! I love all of these homes, but I especially love the last two - that ranch is darling as well as the bungalow! OK, hoping that something soon works out...and as for the sale of your home...what ever happened to the initial plan with the neighbor?

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh my gosh...I love them all! Best of luck selling, but I don't think you'll have any trouble now that it's almost spring!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Each home offers some great features! I hope you'll be able to sell your home quickly and still be able to choose one of these that you like. In 2013 our son and daughter in-law bought a townhouse in April and had to sell by October due to a job change. They barely got used to living there!

  35. Love! Our farmhouse is 1200 sq ft. It's really perfect and cozy. I do hope your home sells quickly so you can find your next cottage! Love the arched openings in the last one...wouldn't it be adorable painted your signature white? There is charm in each house and I know you will take whatever you all buy and make it more so! Praying for a speedy sale and all. Hugs,

  41. I love looking at homes, so thanks for taking me along on your house hunt. These are all great homes, Kris. Wonderful choices and with your decor touch and Terry's willingness to jump in an make your dreams come true, you can't go wrong. Any one of these would work for you. I'm glad you have no problem with the small bedrooms. As you know our bedroom is very small and I'm perfectly happy with that. I'd rather have a tiny bedroom and more living space, which is exactly what builders were thinking back in the day those were built. People didn't have master suites like the new homes do. As an architect Dennis designed custom homes with huge master suites and he could never understand why his clients insisted on them since they were really only used for sleeping. (Well, maybe for more than just sleeping, but this is a family-friendly blog so we won't go there!) Hugs, Nancy

  46. Kris,
These are all lovely! So much charm...and I can totally see all of the potential as you have such a talent for making each room so comfy, cozy and even more charming. All of these homes are quite deceiving from the outside--the rooms are quite large once you see the inside. What fun! Thanks for taking us along!xo

  48. Kris, there is something to like about each one. It looks like there is a lot available for you to make over into your own style. Always loved a screened porch on the front of a house. My old auntie had one and I just loved, as a little girl, walking into the greenry before actually entering the house. Good luck!!..Happy Wednesday..xxoJudy

  51. Hi Kris :)

I love the patio on the 1st one and quite a few things in the other two. I'm sure you'll find the perfect one :)

It kills me to hear that old homes are getting torn down in that neighborhood, but I'm sure you know that about me lol

I wish you all the luck, as always.

  53. Oh (clapping hands) how fun! I got my smoothie and settled in to look along with you! I LOVE looking at homes.. wish I could buy a new one every year (hee hee)... as I enjoy looking so much! Each one is darling and has it's special points and features. Our new (older) home as a tiny yard so I would opt for a somewhat bigger yard as I love to garden. Also, with an older home, choosing one with a newer roof and updated windows is always a good idea too (unless you have tons of money to replace all that which is very spendy). Anyway.. they are all darling. Our town in Oregon doesn't have many bungalows or "cottages". Your touches can even make a new sleek home look vintage and cottage though, so whatever you choose will be "just right". Just make sure there is a "cave" for Terry! I saw one had a garage... wouldn't that be just perfect??? and love the brick patios. I'll be anxiously awaiting your next tour! Marilyn

  64. These are all super cute, can't go wrong. We don't have huge rooms in the new house and we love it. Been there done that and now so much warmth and we enjoy our entire home. Happy to hear you can still watch the babies. Good Luck with the sale. Sorry so late but things having been going on with MS. That is why I haven't posted since December. Hopefully back soon getting some things worked out.

  65. I adore visiting houses, so I enjoyed that post very much. With each "new" house you took us too, I thought "Oh, this is the one". Each of them has something charming and things to change to make it yours. They all seemed like big houses to me, but French houses are smaller than US ones. In my previous place, my bedroom was about 100 square feet and I had room for a big slided door cupboard, a queen size bed with a bedside table on each side, a chest of drawer, a bookshelf and a chair to put my clothes on at night... You'll make work those bedrooms!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Kris, you will make which ever house y'all buy a beautiful chippy white slice of lovely. Bedrooms don't need to be large....I prefer small cozy bedrooms.

I must say that I love the last bungalow. You could do so much with those porches with your pretty things. It would take buckets of primer but that's okay!

But then again there are features about all the others I like, too....

I enjoyed seeing the choices so far!

  67. Oh my goodness! How will you ever choose Kris? Each of the cottages are beautiful and offer such nice detail! I must say though, the Craig Cottage with the built-ins and that gazebo in the back yard really caught my eye!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Oh my....I would have such a hard time. I loved number 1 for sure, the space was great but I like bigger bedrooms. The Craig is great. Love the built ins....BUT I think I like the last one so much. Draw back, 2 bedrooms but since it is just me and the dog....I could make that work.

  69. No matter which cute little cottage you choose, you will make it into a most over the moon charming home!!!

  74. There are so many pretty choices, Kris! Such charm and possibilities. Smaller can be cozy and easy. They all have lovely qualities. I love the floors in the 2nd cottage and the outside areas in others. It would be a hard choice. You took some really nice pictures. It sounds like a nice neighborhood and that the location would be perfect for Terry's commute. I hope the packing is going well and that you land a buyer soon. I'm keeping you in my prayers!
